Updates:

  • Thank you SO much for the donations to help make Friday, October 30th extra special. Our day will be filled with festive activities within our classroom. Our community is the best!

  • This month we are showing enthusiasm for school. When we are in a positive, happy, excited mindset great things happen. This has been fun to see! Keep it up students!

  • Please pack a water bottle with your child to school. The drinking fountains are only used to refill bottles and cups.  It helps so much when they have access to their own water bottle.

  • We had a nice donation of class lanyards a few weeks ago, if your child has their lanyard on the mask they are wearing to school it is extremely helpful! If they do not have a lanyard the students use a paper bag that is easily misplaced and then replaced. Again, the lanyards are helpful!

  • Be sure your child is reading their fluency passages nightly and write down how many words they read to you on the second page of the packet.  One math page needs to be done nightly as well. These skills are a review from what we learn in class.

  • Starting Monday, be on the lookout for a first grade friendly agenda page at the beginning of our AVID binders. This page will  offer another line of communication about homework routines, assignments, and expectations. I hope this helps!

  • If your child enjoys breakfast before school it is best if they arrive by 7:15/7:20 to allow them time to eat before we begin learning at 7:30. Thanks!

  • Dismissal on Wednesdays is at 12:00.

  • If you child is not feeling well please take a day or two off of school to recover. This helps ensure we are all healthy while at school. If your child is sent home with COVID symptoms by the school nurse they will need to remain at home for 10 days OR present a negative COVID test. It is best to just stay home and rest!

  • If your child is at home for the 10 days we will be in contact with you about school work. Almost all work will be self guided with access to Canvas with a few papers sent home of what we are doing in class. If/when this situation arises we will manage on a personal basis.

  • I am working on getting Scholastic set up for our class. This way you can order books online for home. I LOVE scholastic!

A Look at Next Week:

ELA

The bat unit has been informative, interesting, and super exciting. We will wrap up bats and start a week of spiders. Our spider stories will be a combination of fiction and nonfiction while reading Stories of Anansi and informational texts.  This Anansi stories are some of my personal favorites.  We will learn about his tricky ways and find morals from the stories.

MATH

Subtraction has been a blast! We have been using counters to take away, I am beyond impressed with this skill. Next week we will continue with subtraction and work with number lines and counting back.

SCIENCE

We are in a new unit… the human body! From the respiratory system to the skeletal and circulatory system we will learn all about what makes us healthy and active.

SOCIAL STUDIES

What fun it has been from learning but mistakes that worked! From the doughnut hole to the piggy bank the students are making great connections!

Again, thank you for supporting our room 6 community!

Ms. Reger
