· For
the month of March we will be working on showing perseverance, such a crucial
skill when having a growth mindset. I challenge the students to preserve in all
areas related to their studies. We have
preserve when writing complex paragraphs, we can persevere when trying a new
game at recess, and we can persevere during the school week as we learn new
concepts. This value will best prepare them for second grade.
· If
there is a change in transportation I kindly ask you to arrange prior to the
school day, unless there is an emergency. We often have changes during the
school day for pick up. In order for the child to be notified of the change an
announcement needs to be made to our class, this can be disruptive to our
learning time. I do ask to please arrange prior to the school day as well as be
present the entire school day. Those
early pickups before dismissal are also notified over our class announcement.
· We
LOVE our parent helpers and visitors, please check in at the office upon
arrival. If you come to our class and we are not present go back to the office
for assistance. We may be at a special, recess, or lunch.
· Expect
progress reports to be sent home on Wednesday.
· Poem
choice sheets will be sent home on Monday. I look forward to hearing another
round of expressive poems.
· FIELD
TRIP INFORMATION… I know you have been waiting but permission slips, chaperone interests
(on a portion of the permission slip), and additional information will be sent
home Monday. Our trip will be full of learning experiences and fun as we visit
the I.D.E.A. Museum!

A
look at next week…
Spalding
We continue to work in our Spalding notebooks. As we
write and mark we are working on letter formations as well as consistent
handwriting, ensuring that our books are uniform and neat. Please be sure the
books come to and from school daily. As we read and write in class we are
taking the time to recognize and implement our phonograms. Room 19 will be full of strong readers and
writers by the year end!
Reading
What fun Frog and Toad has been! We will be integrating science
into our literature time as we read about butterflies. We will study life
cycles, take non-fiction notes, write expository texts as well as have a few
technology elements within our butterfly unit.
Math
I have been so impressed with our addition and
subtraction skills. We will be adding with regrouping within 1,000 when we
return. I would like the students to pay close attention to detail and follow
strategic steps to find an accurate sum.
Social Studies
Onto the next ancient studies unit, the Maya, Inca, and
Aztec civilizations. We will be creating
a project complete with map, booklets, and illustration as we learn about each
group.
Science
Expect habitat projects to be sent home!
Have a wonderful spring break,
Ms. Reger
