For the month of March we will be working on showing
perseverance, such a crucial skill when having a growth mindset. I challenge
the students to preserve in all areas related to their studies. We have preserve when writing complex
paragraphs, we can persevere when trying a new game at recess, and we can
persevere during the school week as we learn new concepts. This value will best
prepare them for second grade.
·
All poems have been assigned, please practice at home for our
big day!
·
Thank you parents for sending in the permission slips for our upcoming
field trip. Prior to the i.d.e.a. Museum we are collecting plastic bags. The
museum’s goal is to collect 500 lbs of plastic. Let’s help them reach this great goal!
·
If you have not already been to the i.d.e.a. Museum please
explore their website. The exhibits are continually changing, they currently
have a junkyard jungle exhibit. What a fun place to learn and discover.
·
Be sure you are adding to the reading log nightly. We have just
a few more weeks to turn in for term 4 credit.
·
We have drawn for the 2 chaperones that will be joining us on
the bus for our field trip. The chaperones are… Mrs. Bowden and Mrs. Standage
·
All other parents that would like to attend the field trip are
welcome to pay at the Museum for a daily visit and join us then.
·
Next week will be our last week of tutoring.

A look at next week…
Spalding
We
continue to work in our Spalding notebooks. As we write and mark we are working
on letter formations as well as consistent handwriting, ensuring that our books
are uniform and neat. Please be sure the books come to and from school daily.
As we read and write in class we are taking the time to recognize and implement
our phonograms. Room 19 will be full of
strong readers and writers by the year end!
Reading
We
have enjoyed our storytelling unit. The students have been introduced to all
important elements of a good story including character development, creating a
setting, conflict, as well as an ending.
Please check out our ClassDojo story to see what videos the students
have been inspired by! We have spent much of the week introducing and
brainstorming story elements. Next week they will be creating their very own
tales.
Math
Subtraction
with borrowing within 1,000 next week. WOW!
Social
Studies
Onto
the next ancient studies unit, the Maya, Inca, and Aztec civilizations. We will be creating a project complete with
map, booklets, and illustration as we learn about each group.
Science
I
hope you all enjoyed our ecosystem mobiles. We have loved traveling around the
world to various habitats. Our science
next week will involve anything and everything butterfly!
Have
a wonderful weekend,
Ms.
Reger
