Week 30

·       Congratulations to Zara for winning the perseverance Core Value Award! I admire her work ethic as she continues to grow even when faced with a challenge.  Through continued efforts she has made progress in all areas of study. She is so ready for second grade as she has persevered with all our new learning goals and expectations. What a great effort Zara, we are proud of you!
·       For the month of April we will practice cooperation as a community as we learn and grow.  It is so important that we come to school each and every day with the same goals in mind.  I look forward to seeing us work together to complete tasks during the school days!
·       Thank you parents for sending in the permission slips for our upcoming field trip. Prior to the i.d.e.a. Museum we are collecting plastic bags. The museum’s goal is to collect 500 lbs of plastic. Let’s help them reach this helpful goal!
·       If you have not already been to the i.d.e.a. Museum please explore their website. The exhibits are continually changing, they currently have a junkyard jungle exhibit. What a fun place to learn and discover.
·       No more tutoring for the remainder of the year.

A look at next week…
Spalding
We continue to work in our Spalding notebooks. As we write and mark we are working on letter formations as well as consistent handwriting, ensuring that our books are uniform and neat. Please be sure the books come to and from school daily. As we read and write in class we are taking the time to recognize and implement our phonograms.  Room 19 will be full of strong readers and writers by the year end!
Reading
What fun it is to take turns reading aloud to the class! It is the time I most enjoy, the students amaze me with their fluency skills. We will be reading Blueberries for Sal as a class as we identify character motivations, moral, and order of events. This is a well-liked classic book!
Math
Next week will be all about review! During the week we will be working in packets that encompass all of the skills from the year.  This is such a great way to check for retention of information as well as complete mastery. I am hopeful the students will feel confident, excited, and comfortable about showing what they know.  We will also be working on a math journal as we write and solve word problems.
Social Studies
I hope you all enjoyed the ancient projects that were sent home. Our next unit will be anything and everything map related. We will be looking at world maps, city maps, and land maps as we use a compass rose to navigate.  Maps are so fun and interesting. The students will be expected to create a map of their bedroom as well as memorize their home address.  Please review the homework during the week to see if you child needs your assistance!
Science
We will be reading and learning about influential scientists such as Jane Goodall, George Washington Carver, and Amelia Earhart.

Have a wonderful spring weekend!

·       If there is a change in transportation I kindly ask you to arrange prior to the school day, unless there is an emergency. We often have changes during the school day for pick up. In order for the child to be notified of the change an announcement needs to be made to our class, this can be disruptive to our learning time. I do ask to please arrange prior to the school day as well as be present the entire school day.  Those early pickups before dismissal are also notified over our class announcement.
·       We LOVE our parent helpers and visitors, please check in at the office upon arrival. If you come to our class and we are not present go back to the office for assistance. We may be at a special, recess, or lunch.
