Weekly post for the week of November 13th.

Reminders:

·      No school tomorrow as we all take the time to acknowledge and thank the men and women who have and are serving our country.   We are able to live and love in country that owes much thanks to its service men and women.

·      Snack schedule will be sent home on Monday.  Abby and Alex will be providing snacks next week. The schedule has been so helpful and I appreciate all of the families for their consideration and brining in yummy treats on their assigned days!

·      November’s Core Value will be CARING.  We have been working hard while showing empathy, compassion and being overall good people.  I am looking for caring actions that take the feelings and concerns of others in mind.

·      I would like to formally invite all parents and/or guardians to a Family Pie afternoon!  As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches I would like to spend some time with one another as we celebrate this great classroom community.   I will be providing pies for us all.  Please R.S.V.P. using the following link so I can purchase as many pies as possible.  There are a few other items I will be looking for, if you can sign up to bring something please do! Also, I would like the room to be as comfortable as possible and would like to provide enough for everyone to eat so I ask that siblings do not join. Thanks!

·      Homework as usual next week! :P

·      Ms. Reger will be out on Monday.

Next Week:
Language Arts
Frog and Toad All Year will be the text we are reading from next week.  Again, focusing on comprehension. It is important to understand the details from the story while balancing those details with fluency.  I have really enjoyed our read aloud time over the past few weeks.  Many of our first grade friends volunteer to read to the class, so encouraging to see!  As for writing, we have been writing information texts as a class. The modeling and repetition with familiar graphic organizers best prepares them for independent writing. Over the next couple of weeks the students will be writing their own informational pieces. I look forward to their projects!

Math
Next week we will be reading word problems and choosing the best strategy to solve.  I encourage all students to choose more than one strategy!  We will also start subtracting 9 from teen numbers. How exciting!

Science
The students have very much enjoyed their human body unit!  Their life safe human body brown bags are AWESOME! They will continue with the human body this next week before moving onto the next unit of study.

Social Studies
We will be wrapping up our Thanksgiving on Thursday unit. Our week will conclude with Jack and Annie ending their journey in Plymouth.  The students will be working on their workbooks and may have a possible assessment to check for understanding.

Enjoy the three-day weekend. I will be spending mine with friends and family in Phoenix and here in Flag!
