Reminders:
·
Our annual family Thanksgiving lunch is on MONDAY at 11:35. Parents and families pay the day of. We are the first lunch but I suggest arriving
a bit early to pay and be ready in the lunch room at 11:35 to walk through the line
and enjoy the meal with your child.
·
Congrats to Lilith for earning our Enthusiasm Core Value
Award. She sure knows how to show engagement
and enthusiasm for learning. Thank you for the smiles, creative thoughts
and constant connections during our days together. Way to Lilith

November’s Core Value will be CARING. I usually do Cooperation during this month
but caring seemed to work in well with all that we are focusing on in
class. We have been working hard while
showing empathy, compassion and being overall good people. I am looking for caring actions that take the
feelings and concerns of others in mind.
·
At home chit chats: We are getting to be quite comfortable with one
another… which is GREAT! Each and every child brings something special into our
community but with that being said I am reaching out to you at home. Over the weekend please take the time to talk
about how we show responsibility, even when no one is watching. Such as times
in the restrooms, during line ups and on the playground. I am finding some poor
choices that are being made during those times.
When our friends are sharing and teachers are talking it is expected
that we listen. And last, define what is
tattling and what is reporting. Tattling
is when we are trying to get someone IN trouble, when problems can be solved by
themselves, when someone is not hurt and when what happened was an
accident. Reporting is when we are
trying to get someone OUT of trouble, when we need an adult to help solve a
problem, when someone’s actions are dangerous and when actions have been done
with repeated intent. Talking at home
may solve many of the small concerns that are taking up much of our time and
efforts from valuable learning. Thanks
for following up at home!

Next Week:
Language Arts
I highly encourage all families to purchase an Anansi story. There
and many tales of this tricky spider! We can learn from Anansi all while
enjoying the tale. Next week we will
kick off our Frog and Toad unit. We will
be reading as a class as each child will have a copy of the book and focusing
on text to self-connections and comprehension.
Math
Wrapping up our making 10 strategy using the parts of 8,2,7 and
3. Practice makes perfect with this
skill! We have been using counters, picture form, number bonds and whiteboards
to help us visualize forming a part of 10. This is a skill they will continue
with on second grade but I would like them to have a progressing or meeting
score. So I had the students retake the math test today, I am looking for
improvements towards mastery. Expect the
original and updated test to be sent home on Monday.
Science
The students have been adding to their life-size body diagrams with
Ms. Shaw. They are going to continue to work on the skeletal system next week
as we did not get as much science in as planned with the Halloween
celebrations.
Social Studies
Again, not as much social studies so we will continue with what we
did not get done this week. We will be
reading about the contributions of the Wampanoag people as the Pilgrims faced
many challenges upon their arrival. We
have also been reading aloud Thanksgiving on Thursday as Jack and Annie are in
Pilgrim times. Ask your child about it!
A few photos from
Halloween!
