·      Keep an eye out for information about our end of the year play!  The song practice sheets will be sent home next week for students to use as they prepare for the show.
·      We are looking for:
o   GLUE STICKS
o   SNACKS for the class for snack time

Next Week:
Literature.
We will start our literature study on Tuesday as we read a classical favorite, Charlotte’s Web! THANK YOU for the donated copies as you picked one up for your child.  We checked out additional copies from the library so each student will have a book.  As we read chapters 1-4 next week we will work on summarizing, character traits, motivations, and sequencing, I cannot wait to read this book together!

Science
Our extra unit time will be Social Studies based as we completed a large habitat unit recently and are digging deep with Westward Expansion.

Social Studies
We have been introduced to our Westward Expansion unit. So far we have been introduced to Thomas Jefferson, Lewis and Clark, Sacagawea, and the Corps of Discovery.  We also reviewed the developments of boom towns as prospectors moved west for the gold rush.  As a class we have made a time line connecting all these events, as well as adding simple machines to the timeline as they relate to the growth of our country.  Next week we will be focusing on the route, challenges, transportation, and dangers of the Oregon Trail.

Math
We have assessed all measurement and data standards.  I am so impressed with our growth as we have worked on geometry and time.  We will go back to module 5 as we continue to work with addition and subtraction within 1,000.  I will be sending home a parent letter for you to use as you refer to the various strategies within this module.

Have a wonderful weekend second grade families!
