Weekly Update for 4-10

·      Save the Date:
o   April 11th- Last day for shelter donations
o   April 19th- Spring Carnival!
o   May 4th- Suzuki concert in the square @ noon (permission slip needed)
·      Literature Studies coming up! You can order a copy for your child,

·      THE GIVING PROJECT, we have decided as a class to focus in the Humane Society! Ask your child about what they have learned on how we can help this organization. We did research on the IPads on what is on their wish list and how it can help. Some items are inexpensive and and other require more finical commitment. Any help is greatly appreciate as we learn as we learn the value of giving back to our community.
·      The Core Value for the month of April is, Perseverance. I would like the students to persevere through their school work even when they might feel like they want to give up.  Also, persevering through the school day as our energy levels may decrease.
·      As the year comes to an end the windy spring days come with an extra level of energy.  Please talk with your child about staying on task and participating all day, every day.  We have seen a spike in reminders, any follow up at home is helpful!

Next Week:
Literature./Science
Next week we will double dip with literature and science while learning about simple machines. These machines include the wedge, screw, and incline plane.  We will talk about the makings of these items and their importance. Again, we don’t have RTI of AZMerit testing. Instead as a class we will be having an author’s study on Patricia Polacco. This week we will be reading Thunder Cake and completing a memory activity and enjoying our very own Thunder Cake snack, compliments of Ms. Denny! YUM!

Social Studies
We have been introduced to our Westward Expansion unit. We will be reviewing the influences of Thomas Jefferson and will be introduced to Lewis and Clark! The kids are VERY excited.  Next week we will learn about both of their strengths and how each of them helped with the exploration.  We will also review the three goals they had in mind as they were on their journey.

Math
The kids absolutely LOVED geometry and we saw many interesting connections. Now that we understand the attributes that make a shape we will be partitioning and identifying equal parts.  Fractions, how fun!
