THE BOOK FAIR IS HERE! We
will be doing our walk through on Monday morning, at this time the students
will have a chance to look around. For
students to shop, the book fair is open from 8-4 M-Th., and 8-1 on Friday. Please stop by and buy a book or two with
your child!
·
Walker Observatory (located on
the DeMiguel Elementary campus - 3500 S. Gillenwater Drive) will host a
Star Party this Friday evening (March 3), from 6:30 - 8:00. We will have hot beverages and
fabulous views of our night sky. The current forecast calls for
clear skies on Friday, so come out and join us!
· Core
Value for the month of March, initiative.
I would like the students to take initiative as they challenge themselves to
best prepare for 3rd grade.
Also, taking on responsibilities and kind actions in and out of the
classroom.
· Spring
conferences are next week, turns out that they are optional. Thank you for
signing up, I look forward to meeting with you, but if you do not feel like
meeting is necessary you may un-sign up. Using the following Link:
Next Week:
Literature
We had a great time
with fairytales, we had a chance to review morals, idioms, vocabulary, and story
elements. It was nice to see students
making meaningful connections when learning from the characters and events in our
stories. Next week Ms. Denny will be
reading “The Giving Tree” and she ties it in with story elements and economics.
Science
We will be learning
all about habitats while AT THE PHEONX ZOO! I look forward to the day. Just a
reminder…
·
ALL students and chaperones will need to
pack an all disposable sack lunch, food
purchase from the zoo will not be permitted due to time and lunch location.
·
Be sure your child
is wearing tennis shoes, sun screen, and has a hat and light jacket if he/she
would like. They are responsible for all items brought to and from the zoo.
·
Snacks will be
provided on the bus on the ride to and from the zoo.
·
Students may bring a
small pillow to use on the bus. (must fit in backpack)
·
Students will have
fun work packets to keep them occupied during our travels, if your child would
like to pack a book to read, they may. They are responsible for his/her book.
·
No electronics, this
includes electronic games and phones.
·
I cannot stress how
important it is to be on time prior
to leaving and as we return, we have many students and parents involved, we
want to be sure everyone is safe and accounted for.
·
There is a map on
the back of this paper, if you would like to review the map with your child.
·
Please remind your
child that we are representing Marshall Elementary and we want to be on our
best behaviors and we are respectful to the zoo staff and animal habitats.
·
If you have any
further questions, send me a message or pop in the classroom and I would be
happy to help!
Social Studies
We will continue with
our economics unit, Ms. Denny has introduced the students to goods, services,
needs, and wants.
Math
The students will continue with currency. We have been using our
math tubs as we count coins and identify values. Next week we will transition from using
manipulatives and using other pencil and paper strategies. These skills are so important as they will be
using them during day to day life, any chance to have your child count coins or
help purchase items is helpful, and they LOVE it!
