·      Please join us for our annual family fitness night on March 22nd from 5:30-7! There will be many vendors there to inform you of the activities your child may enroll in. Ms. Denny and myself will also be there in a healthy habits booth with sweet but healthy snacks and facts! We would love to see you all there!
·      The second grade Suzuki concert will be on March 29th.  Students will need to arrive at 5:30 in concert attire. The concert takes place at Flag High. We look forward to seeing their hard work, we are lucky to have the Suzuki program here at Marshall.
·      THANK YOU to Bree, Ryder, and Peyton for our wonderful wish list book donations! We appreciate you thinking of us and I love your donation to our class library.
·      THE GIVING PROJECT, Ms. Denny will be organizing a classroom service project.  We will decide on how we can give back to the people in our community.  As a class we will decide how we can make a difference, I look forward to sharing with you what our plan will be!!
·      It was so nice to have a chance to talk with most of you at conferences.  Thank you for your prompt arrival and continued support this year.  Together we were able to make second grade a GREAT one!  I am confident in the skills, academically and morally, that we have instilled this year. Your child is thriving and will be ready to take on the challenges in 3rd grade!
·      Core Value for the month of March, initiative. I would like the students to take initiative as they challenge themselves to best prepare for 3rd grade.  Also, taking on responsibilities and kind actions in and out of the classroom.
·      We will be celebrating our ocean habitat with an ocean day!  The students will be participating in many ocean learning activities, but we will need your helping hand.  Please take the time to donate an item or two, and/or your time! Next Week:
Literature/Science
We will incorporate our ocean texts during our literature time.  This allows us to focus on reading elements and our habitat content at the same time.  The students will be reading and writing about the ocean layers and the unique animals found in each area.  Ms. Denny will also start off a Titanic Literature unit with the students, it is going to be a great few weeks of reading instruction!

Social Studies
On Friday the students will start reading a Magic Treehouse text focusing on the Titanic.  We will be reading about the structure of the ship, the people and amenities on board, and the current explorations of the ship wreck. Ms. Denny will also continue with her awesome economics unit! The students have been discussing and finding examples of goods, services, wants, needs, natural resource

Math
The students will continue with currency. We have been using our math tubs as we count coins and identify values.  Next week we will transition from using manipulatives and using other pencil and paper strategies.  These skills are so important as they will be using them during day to day life, any chance to have your child count coins or help purchase items is helpful, and they LOVE it!

I hope you all enjoy a sunny, fun filled, and well deserved spring break! Ms. Denny and myself can be found at Spring Training and around town as we enjoy the time off!
