Week 25

Save the Dates!

  • February 15th- NO SCHOOL

  • March 4th- PTO Meeting at 2:30

  • March 8-12th- Spring Break

A few notes:

  • What love we have in room 6! We enjoyed putting up all the creative Valentines sent in!

  • Students MUST BRING DEVICES on FRIDAY! We will be doing an online research project using their personal laptops. If they do not have their device the project will not be nearly as enjoyable.

  • For the month of February we are working on showing actions of INITIATIVE! This means we are creating plans to make positive choices and carrying them out with success.  We have brainstormed ideas on how we show initiative at home and school. Here on campus we can clean up trash when we see it, add more details to our work or show more than one way to solve, and finding solutions for small problems prior to asking for help.

A Look at Next Week:

ELA

We will be “Buzzy Buzzy Bees” next week as that is the title of our story. Along with our bee story we will be working on the various bee jobs and their life cycles.  The students will also be working on their devices to do a mini bug research project. We will be guiding them to first grade friendly websites where they can read and write about a bug of their choice. BRING DEVICES ON FRIDAY for this project!

MATH

We are SO excited to kick off our graphing unit. The students will be reading and creating tally graphs next week.

SCIENCE

Our energy unit continues with light, sound, and heat.

Our inventor unit has been fun! We have read about a variety of inventors such as Steve Jobs, the Wright Brothers, Thomas Edison, and Henry Ford. We will read about a few more such as the inventor of ice cream, blue jeans, and the telephone.

Week 23

Save the Dates!

  • February 4th- PTO meeting at 2:30 (Please join us!)

  • February 10th- Picture Retake Day

  • February 12th- Valentine’s Celebration, we will be doing something fun in room 6!

A few notes:

  • Please have your child bring their charged devices every Friday. If they are plugged in prior to leaving for school they will have enough battery juice to last for our morning activities. Thanks!

  • We may have a little bit of winter weather blues, we are encouraging the students to stay on task, be helpful, show respect, and to be kind to both students and teachers.  We ask that you take a moment to talk with your child about showing their very best Wilson actions!

  • What growth we have had with our reading! We were able to read with every student this week. We timed them for one minute and asked them what they remembered about their passage. ALL students read more than the last time, this is AWESOME! I see students recognizing phonograms and sight words. This will be a semester full of reading fluency.

  • Homework packets (reading and math) are collected every Friday. They receive a grade for completed homework.

  • For the month of January we will be working on the Core Value of ORGANIZATION! It is the perfect time of year to think about how and where we place things to make the days as efficient as possible. I am looking for students to place things back where they belong, take their time doing things slowly and neatly, and to have work spaces that allow to focus on the task at hand.

A Look at Next Week:

ELA

Next week is a mixture of fun! From Groundhog's day to homes around the world and rainbows. We will focus of pulling details for both fiction and nonfiction stories.

MATH

The students have used base ten blocks, illustrations, and computation to add with regrouping. We have been very impressed with their deep understanding of this challenging skill. We will start a new topic with counting back and subtraction with 2 digit numbers next week.

SCIENCE

Our weather unit will continue with rainbows!

SOCIAL STUDIES

We will continue with our maps unit, focusing specifically on city and street maps!

Thank you for reading,
