Week 34

·       This month we have been working on showing cooperation as a community as we learn and grow.  It is so important that we come to school each and every day with the same goals in mind.  I look forward to seeing us work together to complete tasks during the school days!

·       We are still looking for a parent to plan the end of year party. It will be our last one of the year, I am hopeful it will be as amazing as the others! At this point we do not have a lead parent or any signups. It will require some networking but we have a very helpful parent community so I have a feeling it will be smooth planning. Please message me on Dojo if you are interested. If by Friday we do not have a lead parent, other celebration arrangements will need to be made.  

·       Next week we will continue with our end of year assessments. The math assessments went fabulous, I could really tell everyone did their own personal best. Next week we will be testing within the subjects of reading and language. PLEASE be sure your child gets plenty of rest and a healthy breakfast before school. Also, attendance is important so students can be present when the tests are administered. Thank you in advance for supporting your child during this important school testing time.

·       Be sure to add to those reading logs nightly! We have just a couple more weeks to log before collecting for the end of year report card.

·       We are in the home stretch families! I cannot believe how quickly the year has gone, I am so proud of the progress made along the way. We have grown into strong, knowledgeable, happy citizens who are so ready for second grade! It is important to keep the routines as normal as possible as the year comes to an end. The school days are still full of learning.

A look at next week…

Spalding

It has been so rewarding to look back at the first pages of our Spalding notebooks. WOW, how the handwriting and markings have improved. We have a few more weeks to input words, continue with the responsible routines as they come back to school daily. It will be a great portfolio of the year. If you haven’t had the chance to take a look at the Spalding book, please do!

Reading

We have been exposed to a variety of texts, from informative to fiction. What fun it has been! Next week, due to testing schedules, we will be reading short stories for enjoyment. Reading can be just as meaningful when we find the joy in it.

Math

Onto some advanced studies, multiplication! FUN! We will be working with arrays, repeated addition, and skip counting to find totals.  We will be working with manipulatives and colorful worksheets to make connections.

Social Studies

Map studies were a blast. We are working on our goods and services unit as students identify and create connections of their own.

Science

We will be reading and learning about influential scientists such as Jane Goodall, George Washington Carver, and Amelia Earhart.
