Reminders:
·
What a fabulous first grade week! From graphs to a hot chocolate party to
celebrating 101 days smarter to reading our first chapter book as a class! Let’s
keep up the hard work next week.
·
Winter or spring? We will soon find out from Phil! On Monday we
will be reading about Groundhog’s Day and making predictions about what we
think will happen.
·
January is our month
of ORGANIZATION! We are forming helpful habits as we put things back where they
belong. We are also showing organization
within our handwriting and hallways lines.
Miss. Kelly and myself will be awarding one student at the end of the
month for being organized. I look forward to seeing these habits form.
·
Our annual Marshall
Science Fair is in February. All
students 3-5 will have a project to display, every year we are blown away with
their discoveries. First grade will also
have a chance to get involved as we complete a class project. I am thinking we will be experimenting with
weather or rocks. Details to follow.
·
We are looking for Clorox
and baby wipes for our class. If you could send in a tub or two it would be
greatly appreciated. We usually clean a
couple times a week to prevent the spreading of germs.
Save the Dates:
·

Next Week:
Language Arts
The students and Miss. Kelly
have read chapters 1-3 together while working on comprehension and adjectives. Next week our character Elmer will be
introduced to the ferocious animals on Wild Island! We have enough copies for each child to have
a copy to borrow but if they would like their own to keep use the link. A new
paperback is only $5, a used one could be a great deal as well!
Math
We took our last assessment on measuring
length and have dabbled a little with data.
The students are loving making and analyzing graphs! Next
week we will cover graphing for a couple more lessons before starting our
geometry unit.
Science
The students are continuing with
motion and balance. Ask your child about
their recent discoveries!
Social Studies
Our ancient unit was full of
interesting finding and the project that went along with it is impressive. Look for the project and assessment as it
will be sent home soon! Monday will be
the start of our National Symbols unit.
Students will read about the changes and significance of our flag, read
about Lady Liberty and will learn about Mount Rushmore over the next few
weeks.

Reger and Miss. Kelly
