Weekly Update for the week of September 18th

Reminders:
·      THANK YOU AZUUL and BRAYDEN for snacks this week! Next week we have Daisuke (Monday/ Tuesday), Dakota (Wednesday/Thursday) and Destiny on (Friday and following Monday). Please send in a total of 48 individually wrapped items to feed the class. Your child will bring snack for two days as other children will provide as well. Your child will not bring snacks for a couple of months but will have something to eat every day.

·      HOMEWORK NEXT WEEK: Again, one page of the math packet, a one-minute fluency passage with comprehension questions and writing their 10 spelling words AND sentences need to be completed nightly or done by Friday for checking. Be on the look for much graded work!

·      I will be sending home a handwriting and letter formations packet on Monday. There have been huge improvements in their handwriting.  Any extra practice, with the correct formations is helpful. If your child has a moment have them work on their penmanship!

·      Collecting all BOX TOPS! Cut out on grocery items, collect and send them on in! PTO usually does a class party for the class who collects the most Box Tops.  The funding is very beneficial as it all adds up. We are able to purchase items for the classes and school with Box Top funding.

·      Please be sure your child is in attendance each and every day and for the entire school day. I have a few friends who arrive late and leave early pretty often. Any appointments and transportation plans scheduled for before or after the school day are super helpful. I would hate for your child to miss out on anything we have planned.

·      As the weather cools down be sure names are on all clothing items incase they get misplaced.

·      Every Friday support your Marshall spirit by wearing your Marshall gear!

·      THANK YOU Azuul, Elaina, Jacob and Lilith for the Mesopotamian food donations. I will be gathering a few other things this weekend.  I look forward to the kids tasting familiar items as well as trying some new things!

·      September will be a month of focusing on EFFORT, and by this I mean using your energies and excitements to make the most out of each and every day.  Effort can be applied through eye contact, posture, neat work and participation.  We will also be making an effort to show kindness, helpful actions and positive words.  I have seen a great effort already, check class dojo to see daily points!

Next Week:
Language Arts
The kids have LOVED reading the various versions of Cinderella.  We read the Chinese, African, Irish and Korean versions this past week.  This upcoming week we will read the Egyptian version as well as a more traditional story plot.  We have been focusing much of our efforts on fictional read a louds. Towards the end of the week we are going to make the shift to non-fictional text as we read about Hatshepsut and make annotations as we read.  After we read and collect some interesting facts we will be composing our first writing piece.

Math
Next week we are onto a new addition strategy, the concept of using doubles plus one. The math skills are starting to become rigorous and new, I would like to offer a valuable resource to help at home.  Use the following link if you are unsure of any new concepts.  We are in Module 1 lessons 21-24 next week.

Science
Ms. Shaw will spend the week focusing on the important crop of wheat and completing a few investigative activities.

Social Studies
We have completed our Mesopotamian pop up books, what a project!  I look forward to sharing them during parent teacher conferences.  To wrap up our unit we will enjoy Mesopotamian food while using adjectives as we eat. We will take a unit test next week.
