one page of the math packet, a one-minute fluency passage with comprehension
questions and writing their 10 spelling words AND sentences need to be
completed nightly or done by Friday for checking.
·
I will be sending
home a handwriting and letter formations packet next week. There have been huge
improvements in their handwriting. Any
extra practice, with the correct formations is helpful. If your child has a
moment have them work on their penmanship!
·
Collecting all BOX
TOPS! Cut out on grocery items, collect and send them on in! PTO usually does a
class party for the class who collects the most Box Tops. The funding is very beneficial as it all adds
up. We are able to purchase items for the classes and school with Box Top
funding. Destiny has already brought in a large bag full, AWESOME!
·
September will be a
month of focusing on EFFORT, and by this I mean using your energies and
excitements to make the most out of each and every day. Effort can be applied through eye contact,
posture, neat work and participation. We
will also be making an effort to show kindness, helpful actions and positive

I would like the children to
have a chance to try the food grown by Mesopotamians! If you can send in any of
the following items on Friday of next week (the 15th) it would be SO
helpful!
Next Week:
Language Arts
A week (or two) of fairytales
and we read various versions of Cinderella. We will be reading a story from
Ireland, China, the traditional story and a few other versions. Working on compare and contrast, character
traits and the 5 W’s. I plan on assessing the skills after our Cinderella
stories. We are reviewing our noun
studies and jumping into verbs! I hope to start writing units within the next
couple of weeks!
Math
I am seeing the connections and
growth with number bonds, number sentences and number stories. It is really cool to see! Our first module is a long one as we
establish the part-part- whole relationships using lots of different
strategies. Continuing next week with
addition and using efficient strategies that help us solve. I am
pleased to see many of my students going above and beyond to earn that “4”. They add number bonds and number sentences
without being asked and will accuracy, way to make those connections and show
EFFORT!
Science
The students planted two types
of grass, which is now spouting. The students are working on the inquiry process
as they form hypothesis, ask questions and observe. Ms. Shaw and myself
strategically planned the process of planting and Mesopotamia as they people of
that region are known as farmers. They
LOVE science!
Social Studies
We will be reading and writing
about King Hammurabi and the contributions such as the wheel and calendar made
by Mesopotamians. This will complete our
pop up books! The following week we will taste some Mesopotamian food and take
a summative assessment.
I hope all of our room 8
families have a wonderful 3-day weekend! I will be enjoying the days camping in
the woods while off-roading, hiking, playing a couple of rounds of corn hole
and cooking, over the camp fire style!
-Ms.
Reger
