·      Congrats Yair for the award of Responsibility!  September will be a month of focusing on EFFORT, and by this I mean using your energies and excitements to make the most out of each and every day.  Effort can be applied through eye contact, posture, neat work and participation.  We will also be making an effort to show kindness, helpful actions and positive words.  I am looking forward to making huge efforts towards our learning.

Next Week:
Language Arts
Continuing with folktales with Little Red Riding Hood and the Chinese version, Lon PoPo. These stories will be read a louds, this allows for the children to make mental images and connections while listening.  After our stories we will work on story elements, character traits and will participate in small group plays.  Again, looking for lots of effort!

Math
I am impressed with our focus first thing in the morning while working on math.  It is a great start to the day.  We are working on counting on strategies.  I will be sending home helpful parent information on this on Monday. Please read over as you assist with homework.

Science
The kids LOVED planting last week. They talked about soil elements such as nutrients and the components in making plants grow.  The students planted two types of grass, I look forward to hearing about their observations.  Ms. Shaw and myself strategically planned the process of planting and Mesopotamia as they people of that region are known as farmers.  We love the connections they make from across the hall!

Social Studies
We have covered the establishment of a civilization and the meaning behind the name of Mesopotamia.  We also used maps and resources to picture the ancient times.  This coming week we will make connections with farming and have a chance to write using cuneiform.

I hope all of our room 8 families have a wonderful 3-day weekend! I will be enjoying the days camping in the woods while off-roading, hiking, playing a couple of rounds of corn hole and cooking, over the camp fire style!
