Language Arts
We will be reading a Magic Treehouse
chapter book a loud as a class. If your child would like their own copy to
follow along with you may order and send it in on Tuesday. I will be projecting the book on the board
and reading to them most of the time but know some would love to follow along
with a book of their own. Amazon seems
to be reasonable and fast shipping; you may use the following link. https://www.amazon.com/Mummies-Morning-Magic-Tree-House/dp/0679824243 We are starting off a new unit of study,
Ancient Egypt! How exciting! To get the most info in we are using our
literature time over the next couple of weeks to read about the Egyptian
adventures of Jack and Annie. Next week
we will start our literature study with chapters 1-4. HOW FUN!
Math
We have covered various
strategies for addition facts within 10.
We have worked with picture and number sentence forms, counting on, and
doubles memorization. This next week we
will be using number lines to help us add.
The number lines are helpful and such a useful strategy at this age. I
will send one home in their homework folders on Monday for you to keep at home!
Science
We will have a CORN DAY on
Tuesday as we are learning about the crops and farming techniques of the Mesopotamians. Ms. Onse has planned a wonderful lesson
guided by the uses and importance of corn.
Ms. Shaw will continue with wheat and a plant wrap up. She is planning on starting the mummification
process very soon!
Social Studies
Welcome to the studies of
Egypt. The students will start their
pocket books and read about the people and importance of the Nile. This will be
such a fun unit full of interesting facts about such an interesting
civilization. I look forward to their discoveries. Egypt is such a large unit that we are able
to cover information during our literature, science AND social studies time!
