Weekly Update for the Week of August 28th

Reminders:
·      Please send in a water bottle for your child to keep in their cubby to drink from during the busy school day.
·      Our snack schedule will start with ABIGAIL, ALEX and ARIELLA. Please send in a total of 48 individually wrapped items to feed the class. Your child will bring snack for two days as other children will provide as well. Your child will not bring snacks for a couple of months but will have something to eat every day.
·      THANK YOU all for signing up for ClassDojo. It is the best way for you to check in on how your child is doing!
·      Just a reminder that school starts each and every day at 8:35. Drop off starts at 8:20 for recess and breakfast. If your child is here before then they need to be enrolled in F.A.C.T.S. or Co/Op.
·      HOMEWORK NEXT WEEK: One page of the math packet, writing their name 3 times and writing their 10 spelling words AND sentences needs to be completed nightly or done by Friday for checking.  Again, all work is sent home on Monday and is returned in the blue folder on Friday.
·      I am looking for a parent to attend our first PTO meeting. It is always nice to have a parent there to represent room 8 and first grade. Let me know if you can be there! (September 6th)
·      I am continuing to look this week for a RESPONISBLE student to be awarded with the August Core Value certificate. I am looking for responsible actions such as following directions, practicing self-control and the completion of neat and accurate work.
·      Thank you all for your attendance at our open house. It was great to see your involvement!

Save the Dates:

Next Week:
Language Arts
I am so impressed with the moral connections we made while reading Aesop’s fables!  This week we will be reading similar stories from different places. We will read Tom Thumb, Thumbelina and Issun Boshi as we focus in sequencing, vocabulary and compare/contrast standards. Be sure to as your child about our readings, they sure are fun!

Math
We will continue to work with part-part-whole number combinations. Please review your child’s HW nightly.

Science
THE INQUIRY PROCESS…. HOW EXCITING! Ms. Shaw will be introducing them to the inquiry process and starting her unit on plants.

Social Studies
I am looking forward into jumping into our first unit, ancient Mesopotamia. We will be learning about the elements of creating a civilization and the important contributions from ancient times.

It will be a GREAT week! Thanks for reading :]
