Weekly Update for 4/3

Hello! It’s Ms. Denny, I can't believe its already April! Here is important information for the next week.
·      Save the Date:
o   April 5th- PTO @ 6:30
o   April 11th- Last day for shelter donations
o   April 19th- Spring Carnival!
·      Literature Studies coming up! You can order a copy for your child,


·      THE GIVING PROJECT, we have decided as a class to focus in the Humane Society! Ask your child about what they have learned on how we can help this organization. We did research on the IPads on what is on their wish list and how it can help. Some items are inexpensive and and other require more finical commitment. Any help is greatly appreciate as we learn as we learn the value of giving back to our community.
·      March is over! We will be giving the award for initiative on Monday. The Core Value for the month of April is, Perseverance. I would like the students to persevere through their school work even when they might feel like they want to give up.  Also, persevering through the school day as our energy levels may decrease.
·      THANK YOU for all the supplies for ocean day and the parent help! We couldn’t of had such a successful day without it! It was such an exciting day and we did so many fun activities to reflect on all of our ocean knowledge. I have included picture at the bottom of each group.   
·      We enjoyed lunch with Paige and Anycia, Heather and Annabelle, and Caleb and Natalie. We are looking forward to our last lunch with Myah and Liliana. We are half way to earning our class reward at 2,500 points!



Next Week:
Literature
We are still reading our Magic Tree house Titanic book and are finishing it by the end of the week. We are focusing on comprehension, vocabulary, comparing and contrasting, and making inferences. We don’t have RTI for the next three weeks because of AZMerit testing. Instead as a class we will be having an author’s study on Patricia Polacco. This week we will be reading Rechenka’s Eggs and completing a thinking map about the book as well as water coloring beautiful paper eggs!

Social Studies
 We have been introduced to our Westward Expansion unit. We will be reviewing new vocabulary and maps that we will be using and reading about Thomas Jefferson and the Louisiana Purchase that started our countries expansion!
Math
We are finishing our geometry unit next week, learning about shapes and their characteristics! At home you can review how many sides triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons and hexagons have. Then we will start our work on fractions at the end of the week. Introducing vocabulary like whole, parts, halves, thirds and fourths

Weekly Update for 3/27

Hello! It’s Ms. Denny, I will be taking over the blog for the next couple of weeks. Here is important information for the next week!
·      Save the Date:
o   March 27th-April 11th- “The Giving Project” see details below
o   April 13th- Possible donation drop off at the Humane Society @ 4
o   March 29th- Suzuki Concert from 5:30-7:30
o   March 31st- Ocean Day in room 8 (details below) Wear Marshall Blue!
o   April 5th- PTO @ 6:30
o   April 19th- Spring Carnival!
·      The second grade Suzuki concert will be on March 29th.  Students will need to arrive at 5:30 in concert attire. The concert takes place at Flag High. We look forward to seeing their hard work, we are lucky to have the Suzuki program here at Marshall. Please don’t arrive any earlier than 5:30!

·      Core Value for the month of March, initiative. I would like the students to take initiative as they challenge themselves to best prepare for 3rd grade.  Also, taking on responsibilities and kind actions in and out of the classroom.
·      We will be celebrating our ocean habitat with an ocean day!  The students will be participating in many ocean learning activities, but we will need your helping hand. Thank you so much for the families that have already donated items or have signed up to volunteer! Please take the time to donate an item or two, and/or your time! ·      We are looking for two parent volunteers at home with some prep work for our upcoming literature studies. We are looking for one parent to make paper bag books for Charlotte’s Web, all supplies will be provided. We are also looking for another parent to make pioneer journals, all supplies will be provided. Please message ASAP on class dojo so we can send home materials.
·      We enjoyed lunch with Jason and Jesse, and Talia and Ryder this week! Looking forward to eating with Paige and Anycia, Heather and Annabelle, and Caleb and Natalie. They have loved learning about our economy with our Dojo points and saving and/ or spending each week. This was our week of our class economy ask your child what they purchased. We are back to normally earning points as a class at 2,500 there will be reward!



Next Week:
Literature
We are starting our read on the Magic Tree house Titanic book. We are focusing on comprehension, vocabulary, comparing and contrasting, and making inferences. We were introduced this week to the Titanic and what our prior knowledge is and what we are excited to learn about.

Science
This week our science will be focused on our ocean day on Friday from 9-11! We have many different center to tie in what we have learned over the past two weeks. Can’t wait to see you all there.

Social Studies
On Wednesday will be moving on to our new social studies unit: Westward Expansion. Discussing why people migrate and settle down, how they establish laws and review new vocabulary that we will be exposed to.

Math
We have just finished up our money unit and their skills have really grow this week! Please continue to incorporate money at home by counting coins! We are putting in a new math newsletter in the homework folders on Monday, this newsletter is helpful when reviewing skills for our next module. We are starting our geometry unit next week, learning about shapes and their characteristics!



I hope you all had relaxing spring break with the nice weather we had! We are excited for all of the upcoming learning we have left for this last quarter of second grade!
