Reminders:
·
Collecting
all BOX TOPS! If you have started a collection at home, please start sending
them in. If you have not been collecting now would be a great time to
start. The spring competition will be
here before we know it and I would like to be in the running for a celebration
sponsored by PTO. The Box Tops are also
a great way for our school to earn money for extra special activities and resources.
·
PTO
will host our pizza party for the canned food drive on Friday, January 20th.
No need to send a lunch but please send a drink item for them to enjoy with
their pizza!
·
The
100th day of school is on January 25th. We will have a
fun filled day with many “100” activities! One of which is making a 100th
day trail mix, each student is responsible for bringing in 100 pieces of
something small (paper sent home on Monday with assigned snack) then we will
mix all of the ingredients together to make a yummy 100th day
snack. A red paper will be sent home on
Monday with more details. We will start collecting items right away. I look
forward to reflecting on being 100 days smarter!
·
If
your child would like to submit a science project they are more than encouraged.
This is optional, the information was sent home last week. The science project
has specific elements that need to be addressed as well as specific due dates.
Be sure to check the details.
·
Save
a small box for Valentine’s Day, we will be decorating the day before. Please
send in the week of Valentine’s Day.

SECOND
GRADE SURVEY: Please take the time to click the link and take the survey as we reflect
on the year and plan for the last few months of 2nd grade. This
survey is extremely helpful as we want to reach all your needs and hopes before
we progress onto 3rd grade. Thank you, https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/P7MGGPW

Next Week:
Literature
We really
enjoyed our studies on Martin Luther King Jr. The students showed much
compassion, empathy, and consideration towards kindness and fairness towards
others. It was a very special week. Next
week our Literature time will be composed of animal characteristic readings and
informational text about the temperate forest habitat. The students will be reading fascinating
forest facts and will have a chance to complete a mini research project on a
forest animal of their choice.
Math
We are
finally coming to an end with Module 4. This unit has been focusing on
computation and the different strategies to use while solving. We have used the
arrow strategy, number disks, ten frames, vertical strategy, and unit grouping
as we have solved 3-digit addition and subtraction sentences. Please be sure
homework is done, this way we are ready to rock the math test on Friday!
Science
Starting to
dig into our first habitat, the forest.
We will be using our language arts time to read about the climate,
seasonal changes, and plants and animals found in the temperate forest. I look forward to this unit as we will be
studying 6 different habitats before taking our zoo field trip! The zoo field trip will take place on 7th.
If you would like to attend I will be taking as many parents that would like to
join. Details about cost and transportation will be sent out as the date
approaches.
Social
Studies
Ancient
China studies continue with inventions and silk. If you have any items that are made of silk
at home and would like to send them in, please do. This way the kids get a
deeper level of learning.
Thanks for
taking the time to read, it is so important that you are in the loop with all
great things happening during the school days! Your help and support never goes
unnoticed. It has been a wonderful year,
I look forward to the second half. This
weekend I will be participating in my second half marathon… let’s hope for a
sunny one, but rain looks to be on the horizon. Have a safe and fun 3 day
weekend!
