Reminders:
· Please be sure your
child arrives on time every morning, breakfast service starts just after 8 and
playground time starts at 8:20. Arriving before the tardy bell allows for eating
and play time.
· Every Friday is
Marshall spirit day, support the Mustangs and wear a school shirt or Marshall
blue!
· It is about that
time of year… Science Fair time! 2nd
grade is not required to present a project but it is always encouraged. There
is still time and details to be sent home, stay posted.
·
Where do you want your tax dollars to go? Arizona allows individual state income
taxpayers to receive a tax credit of up to $200 and married couples filing
jointly up to $400 for contributions made to public schools to support
extracurricular activities. For a tax credit to be claimed for 2016 the
donation must be postmarked or delivered by April 15, 2017. Credit card
transactions must also be done by April 15, 2017. You have a choice. You can
send all your tax dollars to the State or have some of them used directly to
improve education in Flagstaff. Tax credit donations are non-refundable.
· Tax Credit Time here
at Marshall- We’ll be putting a thermometer up in the
lobby next week, and will be filling it in to the $18,000 level to start things
off, which is great. But that means that
we still need to garner another $22,000 before April 15th in order
to keep Magnet Monday, Suzuki, and all of our important field-trips as a part
of our one-of-a kind magnet programming here at Marshall.
·
Report cards were sent home today, check
your child’s backpack and review with them.
·
RAZ kids is always helpful at home!

Core Values for January: Organization
and Caring. I will be awarding two students with certificates at the end of the
month. I look forward to seeing these traits shine this month!
Next Week:
Literature
We had so much fun reading about Johnny
Appleseed, Paul Bunyan, and Pecos Bill. Ask your child about their favorite
Tall Tale. Next week we will be focusing
on MLK and the influences he made on our country. This unit ties in well with showing how we
can care and love one another. Fluency homework is still expected, as the
students are assessed on their oral fluency to show progress towards 3rd
grade. Any chance to read aloud for one minute
is beneficial, sign off after this is done.
Math
The students have been doing so well
with unbundling and using the vertical strategy. More practice with both addition and
subtraction within 1,000 next week. Be
sure to check homework nightly, we have been unbundling correctly (yay!) but
need to double check computation.
Social Studies
We kicked off your Indus Valley unit, we
have introduced the students to a map of the region and the two main rivers in
China and how they were helpful with transportation of goods. Next, reading and reflecting about Confucius
as well as the cultural significance of ancestors.
Science
Focusing on how seeds travel.
