Hello room 19 families!
What
a wonderful first week we have had. I have most enjoyed seeing the smiling
faces every morning and the moments of impressive student behaviors! With each
day our routines become more efficient, the lessons become more rigorous, and
the students become more comfortable when expressing ideas. I look forward to our first full week of
school!
Here and there:
·
THANK YOU families for connecting using Classdojo! It is a great
way to see how your child is doing during the school day. I can also share
pictures, post videos, and send messages.
If there is ever anything you would like me to know or have questions
use the messaging section. The messages are completely private and a way to get
a timely response. The students seem to be motivated to do well when they earn
points. I enjoy giving points away for Spalding position, following directions
(point given when followed the first time) and for making connections. The
ideas and helpful actions make this classroom a great place to grow!
·
I am very impressed with the homework completion. Students have been responsible at home while
they work on concepts from the school day. It is also a way to feel proud of
what we accomplished as we start the school day. The homework will become more
complex as we incorporate spelling (in a few weeks). Keep up the responsible work!
·
August is the month for our class to focus on
responsibility! I am looking for
students who take obligations seriously as well as those who hold
accountability for their actions and attitudes. I cannot wait to award one
student at the end of the month.
·
I very much appreciate the donations of school supplies and
other wish list items. They really go a long way! We would not accomplish
nearly as much without you. Thank you!
·
Next week I will be looking at parent volunteer forms. I hope to
best accommodate schedules as we love having your helping hand. We appreciate YOU!
A look at next week…
Spalding
As a class we will be taking the time to
carefully and accuarately write our letters. This is an important skill as our
work is reflected in our penmanship, it also helps with the transition to
cursive in later grades. We will also
start our OPR and WPR practices. It is time to download the Spalding app and practice
those assigned homework phonograms!
Reading
As
we read a variety of stories throughout the week we are specifically focusing
on story elements such as setting, characters, and plot.
Math
WOW!
Way to go on the last math test, it will be sent home during the week. Our addition
skills are strong. Next week we will focus on subtraction strategies. The week
will conclude with a math assessment.
Science
Starting
our human body unit! We will participate in a fun 5 senses activity. Stay
posted on Dojo for pictures!
History
We
will be kicking off our American Symbols unit with the importance and meaning
behind the flag. We will also discuss the importance of reciting our pledge at
the start of our school day. The week will be complete with a fun American flag
art project!
Thank
you for staying posted and in the know with what we are doing here at school.
Have a nice weekend!
Ms.
Reger
