Weekly Post for the week of May 14th

Reminders:
o   The Suzuki performance that was originally scheduled for last week has moved to May 16th. Families can meet us down there for the show! We will be walking to and from the field trip. How fun!
o  Unfortunately, we will not be performing Frog and Toad. The lack of time to prepare made an impact for us… Sorry!
o  We are working on being TRUSTWORTHY this month. This is our last and final Core Value. Being TRUSTWORTHY means keeping your promises, being honest as well as doing what is right, even when no one is watching.  Cannot wait to see some TRUSTWORTHY first (almost second) graders!
o  The first graders will be taking a walking field trip to the library on Monday, May 21st to hear all about the local summer reading program. I highly encourage all to enroll. That trip will also conclude with a picnic lunch in the park. Please pack a lunch for your child! How fun!
o   We need LARGE CEREAL BOXES! If you have any send them in!

Next Week:
Language Arts
Our poetry unit has been quite fun! I love to see their creative sides.  From color poems to acrostics and bio poems the unit has been a good one.  We will finish with a few final poems next week before moving on to Winnie the Pooh.

Math
Our place value and computation unit continues as we become more efficient and fluent with addition and subtraction.

Social Studies
Our goods and services unit was a great introduction to economics.  We will start an exciting research project on our very own Grand Canyon state. As a class we will read a fictional story and find important information to refer back to when we start our reports.

Science
The students will continue with the studies of air and its forces.

-Ms. Reger

We will miss you Miss Kelly!
