Reminders:
o
We have an eventful yet exciting week ahead. Please carefully read
all updates!
o
Be sure to look in your child’s homework folder on Monday as I will
be sending home a calendar with all of our scheduled events for the remaining weeks
of school. The calendar is quite full!
o
There will be a few new reading homework assignments starting next
week. We are starting to refine as well as challenge our reading skills as the
end of the year quickly approaches. Some students will be working on sight word
list books, others on fluency passages and a few reading chapter books. How
exciting! The support at home is valued and crucial as we make these last
couple of months productive.
o
Mr. Penna from the search and rescue department is going to be
joining us on Monday afternoon as he presents a child safety lesson. This
lesson will expose the children on how to safely find a way home or to a secure
location if they were ever to become lost. We look forward to having him!
o
On Friday we will have our beloved Willow Bend instructors joining
us as we do a recycling activity. Willow
Bend has been and will continue to be a strong partner within our school
district as they help us become aware of our environment.
o
The annual Suzuki performance will take place on Tuesday at 5:30,
taking place at Flagstaff High School in the Hurley Auditorium. This is a night
in which our first grade students can showcase their talents. Thank you for the
R.S.V.P. slips as we have prepared for your attendance. It is VERY important
that your child is in the lobby with Miss Kelly and myself by 5:30 to ensure
their spot in the performance. Students will need to dress appropriately, girls
in skirts or dresses, boys in slacks and collared shirts. This is a special performance
and we want our students to feel and look their best!
o
On April 18th we will be taking our first field trip of
the year to BEARIZONA! It is going to be a great day. Permission slips will be
sent home on Monday. You will need to sign and return as soon as possible to be
sure your child can attend. We will be
looking for a few chaperones; it will be a first come first serve basis for a
reduced adult rate. Details for parents
will be sent home within the next week.
o
Our Core Value for the month of April will be PERSEVERANCE! I would
like the students to persevere through their school work even when they might
feel like they want to give up. Also,
persevering though the school days as our energy levels may decrease.
o
Next week snacks will be Leo and Lilith! We look forward to healthy
snacks to fuel our brains!
o
We are out of markers and we are asking if you are able to bring in
a box of 10 markers for our classroom that would be awesome.
o
Thanks again for reading, being aware of what your child is up to
at school only helps with school success!

Next Week:
Language Arts
What fun fairy tales have been! The students loved identifying the
magical elements within each story. We will start our next unit: bears! The
students will be learning all about three different species of bears. As we work
on our bear unit the students will be creating interactive notebooks for them
to refer to as they write their own bear report to conclude our unit. This unit also tie in well with our field
trip to BEARIZONA on the 18th.
Math
The students have made many connections with 2-D and 3-D shapes!
Our math lessons have started our school days off with lots of fun! We will
continue with shape attributes and start on telling time next week.
Social Studies
Again, what fun our studies has been! The students will put their
map skills to the test as they make maps of the classroom complete with a
compass rose and legend.
Science
Ms. Shaw has concluded her balance and motion unit. For the last
quarter she will focus on our last standard of study, earth science. This unit
will start with air and weather!
