We will be
celebrating our 101st day of first grade next Wednesday. Think about how much we have grown! In order to make the day extra special we are
looking for a few items. The day is 101 Dalmatian
themed, how fun! The day will include building a doghouse STEM challenge and
puppy chow. Please use the link below to
help!
·
The students have
been working hard earning those Dojo points for a HOT CHOCOLATE party! I can
predict that we will be enjoying the delicious treat next week. YUM!
·
January is our month
of ORGANIZATION! We are forming helpful habits as we put things back where they
belong. We are also showing organization
within our handwriting and hallways lines.
Miss. Kelly and myself will be awarding one student at the end of the
month for being organized. I look forward to seeing these habits form.
·
Our annual Marshall
Science Fair is in February. All students
3-5 will have a project to display, every year we are blown away with their
discoveries. First grade will also have
a chance to get involved as we complete a class project. I am thinking we will be experimenting with
weather or rocks. Details to follow.

Thank you for the

Language Arts
We are about to start our first
chapter book read. As a class we will be
reading about the adventures of the brave Elmer as he tried to save a
dragon. This book is a favorite of the
year and we cannot wait to read read it.
Miss. Kelly will introduce the students to the important parts of a
chapter book on Monday. This is an
essential skill as they read more complex and lengthy stories. The reading will start on Tuesday. After each
chapter we will work on story elements.
We have enough copies for each child to have a copy to borrow but if
they would like their own to keep use the link. A new paperback is only $5, a
used one could be a great deal as well!
Math
Measurement is a blast! The students have been using terms such as
longer/ shorter than, measuring using centimeter cubes and have compared many
objects around the room. Next week we will continue with comparing lengths using
centimeters and non-standard units.
Science
The students are continuing with
motion and balance. Ask your child about
their recent discoveries!
Social Studies
Next week we will complete our
Inca studies and the students will be assessed on the components of all three
ancient civilizations.
I hope we all have a white Saturday!

Reger and Miss. Kelly
