Few Reminders:
·
Monday, October 31st will be SPIDER DAY! We will be
reading an African folktale about a tricky spider named Anasi, reading a non-fiction
text about spiders, Ipad time for any curious spider research, as well as a
spider craft or two. If you would like
to send in anything spider related for snacks we would LOVE that!
·
LOOking for a ballot box! If you would be interested in decorating
a shoe box or small box for students to place their ballots into as we vote for
president please message me!

under $900!!! WOW!

Week:
Literature
Monday
we will be reading Anansi. The rest of the week we will be reading “Lemonade
For Sale”, a 2nd grade favorite! Our reading strategies will consist
of comprehension, problem and solution, and critical thinking through writing.
Math
We
will be finishing up our base ten unit. I see so much growth as we understand
how to interpret and represent numbers in various ways. We have been counting
up to 1,000, comparing numbers, and using many different strategies to show our
thinking. We will be taking our Module 3 assessment on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Science
Continuing
with states of matter as we explore liquids!
Social
Studies
We have been enjoying
our election unit, started with a constitution reading, we made a timeline, and
next week we will start to read about the political parties. We are sharing
thoughts that are truthful and respectful as we make our way closer Tuesday, October 25, 2016
Ways to Show a Number
We have been having lots of fun breaking down our numbers and showing what they represent in many ways!

Update for the week of October 24th
·
Parent University R.S.V.P. letter- PLEASE send in tomorrow if you are able
to attend. I passed out the flyer at conferences. It is going to be a
beneficial night as we set up your child with RAZ kids at home. They had a
chance to try the program in class this week and LOVED it! Reading at home can be lots of fun for them
as well.
·
I apologize for the lack of blogging with
conferences. I am back in the routine and look forward to our updates and
information.
·
Our class field trip was great! Take a look at
the pictures posted below.
·
We are continuing to show enthusiasm, as we
participate with anxious hands, show interest in our subjects, and go above
and beyond to share creative thoughts!
·
We watched a mini-series with our class dojo,
Mojo on empathy. I would really appreciate the follow up at home. We are
becoming comfortable with each other (which I love) but that also comes with
the ability to express thoughts. We talk about show empathy with our friends as
we are considerate of our words, actions, and perceptions of others.
·
We will be attending a very special field trip
to the Double Tree hotel on November 9th. One of our second grade parents was able to
nominate and select us for a tour and lunch hosted and funded by the hotel. I
will be looking for a few parents, when the permission slips are sent out and
you would like to attend, complete the chaperone slip as well. (Permission
slips to be sent home next week)

Next Week:
Literature
We will be reading “Hedgehog Bakes a Cake” while working on
sequencing, inferencing, and problem solution.
Math
I will give a mid-module assessment to check for
understanding with base ten. We have had the chance to pull apart numbers and
show them in various ways. We have also been working hard on unit form counting
and using 1s, 10s, and 100s to count up.
Science
We will be starting with our next state of matter: liquids!
We have the coolest science kits that allow for lots of exploration and
experimentation.
Social Studies
We are jumping right in to our election unit! Reading about
the history of voting, campaign propaganda, and the 2016 candidates. It is
important that we practice truthful, respectful, and kind conversations. It is
great that we live in a country that allows us to express our thoughts, but we
also need to be respectful of all ideas, even if we may think differently.
Thanks for your continued support! I love when I see
comments, messages, and likes on our class dojo!
