Week 22

Save the Dates!

  • January 25th-January 29th- Owl at Home Week

  • February 4th- PTO meeting at 2:30 (Please join us!)

  • February 10th- Picture Retake Day

  • February 12th- Valentine’s Celebration, we will be doing something fun in room 6!

A few notes:

  • How amazing it has been to be back in the classroom! From our math manipulatives to Little Bear and our artist of the week, we are growing and learning.

  • Pictures and order forms were sent home on Monday, check your child’s green folder.

  • Your child will only need to bring in their devices on FRIDAY. Thanks! They are very heavy and take lots of room in backpacks.

  • Please have your child bring their charged devices every Friday. If they are plugged in prior to leaving for school they will have enough battery juice to last for our morning activities. Thanks!

  • The students will continue to work from the papers sent home in the bags before break, please do not lose and send to school as well. THANK YOU!

  • What a nice time it has been meeting with you all this week. We had the opportunity to talk with all of our room 6 families this week.

  • I highly encourage you to purchase or rent Owl at Home for your child. The students who have books in hand while reading have enjoyed it very much. This is not required but if your child would like a copy of their own please use the link to order. These are classic books that never get old. Amazon is a great resource as books are as little as $4.95.  You may send them in with your child at any time prior to us reading them, they can safely stay in cubbies until it is time for them.

  • For the month of January we will be working on the Core Value of ORGANIZATION! It is the perfect time of year to think about how and where we place things to make the days as efficient as possible. I am looking for students to place things back where they belong, take their time doing things slowly and neatly, and to have work spaces that allow to focus on the task at hand.

A Look at Next Week:

ELA

We will be doing a room 6 book club as we read Owl at home. There will be activities and tasks before, during and after our chapters. The students have enjoyed reading a chapter book. Again, if you can, please provide a copy for your child, they love having their own books!

MATH

We will continue to use base ten mats and blocks to add with regrouping.

SCIENCE

Our weather unit will continue with clouds!

SOCIAL STUDIES

We will continue with our maps unit, focusing specifically on world and state maps.

Thank you families,

Ms. Reger and Mrs. Rodriguez

A Look at Next Week:

What fun snow has been! Next week we will start our first chapter book, Little Bear’s Friend.  Prior to reading we will learn about various parts of a chapter book including the table of contents.  Following each chapter the students will complete a think and respond and have a chance to journal about their own experiences that are similar to Little Bear’s. We cannot wait to hear the students read and follow along next week!

MATH

Addition without regrouping and also starting addition with regrouping. We are so excited to start a new unit, using our understanding of place value to add some pretty large numbers.

SOCIAL STUDIES

We will start our maps unit, finally using those fun foldable lap books!

Thank you families for reading! Have a wonderful 3 day weekend!

A Look at Next Week:

ELA

We will continue with our snow stories. Mrs. Rodrigues will be covering various stories such as The Mitten and Snowflake Bentley while focusing on details that provide important information. I hope that we can make stronger connections with snow and how it is formed, living in the Valley of the Sun does not provide the real life connections that I’d hoped for!
