WEEK 4

HELLO!

  • What a fantastic week! It has been so fun introducing new skills and seeing the growth within every child.  These kids continue to impress me, keep up the good work!

  • Don’t forget to fill out the survey sent out by the district by FRIDAY!

  • For those who are having audio issues here is a great solution.  I found these on Amazon, there are a variety of HEADSETS to choose from. You must be sure it is a HEADSET not just HEADPHONES, the headset has a mic for them to speak into.

  • Useful tool, if your child has a whiteboard or chalkboard that would be great! I would like to start using these to check for understanding and to include another tool to use for FUN! If your child has one, get it out, or if you want to get your child one I would like to use them on Friday, Sep. 4th. If your child does not have one it is OK and they can use their notebooks.

  • Use the “library” button to access Tumblebooks and Pebblego at any time!

  • I have been busy working in our classroom to be sure it is cheery, clean, safe, and a FUN place to learn. I cannot wait to be back there someday!

  • Acadience Testing will take place next week on THURSDAY, September 3rd.  Your child will have a set time to pop into Ms. Murphey’s room OR Ms. Michael’s room. Mrs. Michaels is one of your school IAs and is trained to administer this assessment.  Ms. Murphey is at her green button and Ms. Michael can be found UNDER READING LAB.  PLEASE take note of WHO your child is with and WHEN to send your child at that time, I will do my best to remind you. The schedule will be sent in a message on Dojo, emailed, and posted to our class story.

  • Just a reminder to check the schedule to see when your child should be “LIVE” on video lessons with me and when they are to do module work.

Next Week…

Math

What a week of subtraction, the activities, participation, and quiz scores show how well they have mastered the skill. I am impressed! We will be working on a more challenging skill next week, comparing numbers and using key words such as “more” and “fewer”. We will be comparing groups of objects and comparing how many more and how many fewer. I look forward to the challenge!

ELA

We successfully grasped the concept of the main topic and used a circle map to show our thinking. The students did well.  Next week we will discover common nouns and proper nouns.  We will also describe characters and continue to work on handwriting.

Science

We are continuing with our motion unit.

Social Studies

We are continuing with our citizenship unit, the students will learn about showing responsibility. A special and important trait to show as students and people.

Thanks for reading and staying current on all that we are up to! Have a nice weekend!

WEEK 3

  • Welcome back and thanks for reading. I feel like I am able to reach many families between our class blog and Dojo. If at any point you need to reach me with questions or concerns send me a message on Dojo or email me. I am here to help!

  • For art on Friday, August 28th, your child will need a pair of child scissors as well as a sheet of colored paper, even if it's wrapping paper, newspaper, colored copy paper, or even construction paper. Cut into a standard sheet of paper size or 11x14. Your choice!

  • Any questions or comments directly related to specials need to be inquired about by our specials teachers. I know they are happy to help and look forward to the participation as much as I do!

  • Your child may log onto Xtra math anytime! This is a great math facts practice!

  • Mrs. Murphey and myself LOVED reading with our students this week. Thank you for being there and ready to read. We will continue to read with students next week. Ms. Murphey will be calling to make up readings for those who missed it.

  • Thank you students and families for jumping right into the technology and various learning spaces. We are truly trying our best to be sure every child gets what he/she needs.

  • A new tool has been added to Canvas, the Studio. I am in the process of uploading all live lessons by date and subject. If you are absent or would like clarification, look for our recorded session.

  • Have a nice weekend!

A Look at next week…

Math

We have been working very hard with the concept of addition and using various strategies to solve.  We will move onto subtraction, how fun! This concept is a little harder to grasp but we will be using our pennies and notebooks to best help us develop those foundational concepts.

ELA

We are digging deeper into our literature concepts as we learn about a central meaning, main topic, and key details. We have many fun stories and live activities planned, I look forward to it!

Science

The students continue to work on force and motion. The week will be complete with a Mystery Science video and lesson.

Social Studies

We will dive into rules, laws, and wrap up the week with an American flag drawing activity!

Week 2 of the 2020-2021 school year!

WELCOME!

Ms. Reger’s nest is BACK and BETTER THAN EVER! I have been blogging for years and have enjoyed it so much that it has become one of my main platforms to share all that we are up to. I will be using this blog to share important information as well as to give reminders. This blog replaces weekly paper newsletters, excessive emails, and is always live and active for you to look back on at any point. I post to our weekly blog on Thursday evenings (of try to!) to review the week but to also share what is to come the following week. I hope you hop on often and read thoroughly about your child’s education. Thanks for being an active and involved member of our parent community!

  • WAY TO GO, I have most of our families connected on Class Dojo. That is wonderful. That way we can message, you can see pictures of what we are up to, and it allows for you to see what points your child is earning. If you have not connected, check your emails!

  • Please be sure your child is both LIVE and working on our days of the week. We balance the work day with online activities as well as with time together.

  • We are working on having the very best online manners. These actions include having a quiet room to work in, we sit up straight, toys and household items are put away, and our eyes are on the screen. I enjoy seeing the students show these actions, it makes such a difference on how connected they are.

  • Be sure your child is dressed appropriately, has a brain food breakfast, and gets ready for school, as they would if we were in person.

  • The EXTRA EFFORT button is available to your child anytime beyond the school day if they want to continue playing learning games.

  • Your child will need access to their username and password for Xtra math next week. Have this ready for them at their workspace on Monday. A few emails were sent out this week on how to find this information.

  • Your child should have their work packets ready for Monday. These were at school ready for pick up on Wednesday and Thursday. Thanks for going to pick them up!

  • Need books at home? The Mesa Public Library offers curbside pick up.  It’s easy to hop online, request books, then arrive at the pick up times at your local branch. Use the link below to check out books from your branch!

A LOOK AT NEXT WEEK…

MATH

We will continue to work with GUS THE PLUS sign!  We will find more strategies such a counting up/on to find our whole as well as missing addends. This skill takes a little time to master, please do not worry, this is a skill we will work on all year long! The students will be working in his/her math work packet starting on Monday! I can’t wait!

ELA

What fun our fictional stories have been! Next week we will continue to work with the 5 W’s as we make connections with who, where, and in what order of events. The students will be making connections while participating and working in their notebooks.  Be sure the module work is done as it reinforces our learning standards.

SCIENCE

Newton’s Law, WOW, in first grade we are learning about how objects move! There will be a combination of activities on FVL and science videos. All activities will be found under the days of the week.

SOCIAL STUDIES

We will be working with the values of being responsible, respectful, and citizenship. The students will learn how we can be good citizens in and out of the classroom!
