Weekly Post for THE LAST WEEK OF FIRST GRADE!

Reminders:
o  THANK YOU for all of the ice cream donations. We were able to enjoy the sweet treat yesterday afternoon.  Pictures below!
o  Next week we will finish out our last few days of school. What a wonderful year it has been!  There is no school on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are full days, and Thursday is a 12:25 dismissal day.  I look forward to enjoying our last few days together as they will be full of excitement. Please read carefully below so you don’t miss a beat!
o  Looking for parent volunteers for the annual First Grade Minute to Win it day, taking place next Wednesday, the 30th from 8:45-11. If you can volunteer to run a station, we would love to have you. Please let me know via Dojo if you can help!
o  Thursday we will be walking to the park to play from about 9 a.m. until lunch time. I have permission slips already as you filled them out at the start of the year. Sunshine and playtime fills the last day of school well. After lunch we will wrap up the day in our classroom. Your child will need an all disposable lunch for the park!
o  Final Report Cards will be sent home on Thursday. Please review with your child. I was pleased with the growth within each and every child.
o  All library books must be returned A.S.A.P. to properly organize and best prepare them for next year.  Green notices were sent home on Wednesday as a gentle reminder of what to look for at home.
o  We are working on being TRUSTWORTHY this month. This is our last and final Core Value. Being TRUSTWORTHY means keeping your promises, being honest as well as doing what is right, even when no one is watching.  Cannot wait to see some TRUSTWORTHY first (almost second) graders!
o  This will most likely be the last blog post of the 2017-2018 school year. It has been a pleasure to be your child’s teachers. I have seen our community grow to be full of helpful, happy, hard working, and caring students.  I know that each and every child has been prepared in the best possible way for the year ahead. Enjoy your summer vacation and best of luck to all in 2nd Grade!

What fun poetry has been. This week we will be reading Winnie the Pooh. A classic favorite! We will also incorporate a few independent reading lessons for students to be reading stories at his/her personal reading level. The books will check comprehension with a few retell and sequencing foldables. I will also be conducting end of year sight word assessments and minute reads. I look forward to seeing the growth!

Math
Our place value and computation unit continues as we become more efficient and fluent with addition and subtraction.  I have been very impressed with the use of various strategies. Students have used tape diagrams, picture form, and number bonds to decompose and add. The last few lessons will concentrate on the steps of subtraction.

Social Studies
We are officially ready to start with our Arizona reports. Students will be choosing information from a non-fiction text to write about all that Arizona has to offer.

Science
The students will continue to work on their balloon rockets. How fun! Be sure to ask your child about their design and test runs.
