Weekly Reminder for January 16-19

Reminders:
·      January is our month of ORGANIZATION! We are forming helpful habits as we put things back where they belong.  We are also showing organization within our handwriting and hallways lines.  Miss. Kelly and myself will be awarding one student at the end of the month for being organized. I look forward to seeing these habits form.
·      Next week snacks will be provided by Josh, Owen and Leo.
·      Ms. Reger will be out on Friday, January 11th.

Next Week:
Language Arts
As a class we will be reading The Hat by Jan Brett while making connections with our previous story.  The class will also do a fun reader’s theater activity.  We just recently introduced the students to personal narrative writing formats and have been beyond impressed with their ideas and connections to feelings.  We will start to bridge the work from whole group to independent.  We are looking for students to identify who, where and an emotional connection.  Cannot wait to hear about their about their experiences!

Math
Measurement is a blast!  The students have been using terms such as longer/ shorter than, measuring using centimeter cubes and have compared many objects around the room. Next week we will continue with comparing lengths as well a start with data analysis. 

Science
Ms. Shaw will kick off the new year with our physical science unit that focuses on motion! How cool!   

Social Studies
Moving onto the Inca!

Weekly Post for Week of January 8th

Reminders:

·      Happy New Year! We are off to a productive start in room 8! It was so nice to see all of our students back to school and ready to learn.
·      January is our month of ORGANIZATION! We are forming helpful habits as we put things back where they belong.  We are also showing organization within our handwriting and hallways lines.  Miss. Kelly and myself will be awarding one student at the end of the month for being organized. I look forward to seeing these habits form.
·      SNACK SCHEDULE: A January and February calendar will be sent home on Monday.  The first half of the year we were well fed and it was very much appreciated.  Please send in snacks on your assigned days, 24 snacks per day or 48 total. Thanks!
·      Next week snacks will be provided by Jordan and Josh.

Next Week:
Language Arts
The students LOVED reading our snow story and we are beyond impressed with their use of prepositional phrases.  What an impressive way to start the new year.  We will be creating our over and under the snow mural.  It will be on display outside our classroom, please take a look when you can! Next week we will be reading The Mitten by Jan Brett while focusing on problem, solution and sequencing.  The students will also have a chance to perform in a reader’s theater activity!   

Math
We have wrapped up Module 2 with adding and subtracting within 20.  Module 3 will conisist on measurement using standard and nonstandard units. I look forward to this hands on module.    

Science
Ms. Shaw will kick off the new year with our physical science unit that focuses on motion! How cool!   

Social Studies
We have read about the Mayans and started the first piece of our project.  Next week we will be reading about the Aztecs.
